Whistler’s Roadmap to Cultural Sustainability
Arts, culture and heritage programming has been identified as a core component of Whistler’s long-term success as both a four-season resort and sustainable community. Along with presenting a rich diversity of cultural events and festivals during the 2009 as part of Whistler’s Cultural Capital of Canada year, the arts, culture and heritage community will work to develop a plan to ensure the opportunities presented by being a Cultural Capital, as well as those associated with the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, lays a solid foundation for a vibrants arts scene into the future.
With that goal in mind, Whistler Arts, Culture and Heritage (W.A.t.C.H.) 2011-2020 is an effort to bring the skills and imagination of a diverse group of separate cultural organizations together to coordinate arts programming and realize synergies in order to reach the goals set out in the Whistler 2020 Arts, Culture and Heritage strategy.
This project will be an important and lasting legacy of Whistler’s Cultural Capital of Canada year. A sound strategy, involving all Whistler stakeholders, will enable the local arts scene to grow into the important role it is destined to play in the future of the resort.
