ArtWalk

When: July 1 - August 31
Since 2004, Whistler’s acclaimed ArtWalk has showcased local and regional artists in various, high-profile Village venues. ArtWalk offers artists the rare opportunity to show their work to a diverse audience over an extended period of time in a settings as diverse as cafes and hotels as well as galleries.
Well, ArtWalk’s expanding! In partnership with the Whistler Museum & Archives and the Spo7ez Cultural Centre, ArtWalk is, well, walking. Participating artists will lead guided tours through the art installations during the months of July and August. The tours will offer an artists eyeview of work on display, Whistler’s natural history and the local arts scene. Tours will culminate in a visit to the Spo7ez Cultural Centre.
But as they say on late-night infomercials, that’s not all! ArtWalk programming will also showcase interactive demonstrations by local artists. See the voodoo that they do at outdoor venues around Whistler Village.
And just to make an irresistable offer even better, Funciton Junction will open up every Friday evening with the Open Studios program. Visit the workshops and studios of some of Whistler’s best-known artists down at one of Whistler’s least-known parts of town. Watch works of art appear before your very eyes… or at least take shape.

Whistler Arts Council, TD Canada Trust and Whistler Real Estate Company are proud to present ArtWalk 2009, a free walking tour showcasing the incredible talent of 71 regional artists and artisans in 40 host galleries during July and August. ArtWalk features the work of regional artists in Whistler cafes, retail outlets, commercial galleries, hotels and restaurants. Artists from Lions Bay to Lillooet showcase works of painting, photography, multi-media, pottery and jewellery. ArtWalk bridges the gap between tourism, business and culture in this free two-month walking tour that brings local art to high-traffic venues. In 2009, Cultural Capitals of Canada funding assistance has enabled us to offer special guided tours by local artists throughout the summer.
